Spicy Vegetarian Black Bean Burger

Super easy black bean patties

Spice up a basic vegetarian and vegan black bean burger patty with some cayenne pepper and hot sauce! This black bean patty will hold together well enough to grill, or you can pan-fry it in a bit of oil. If you like bean burgers, this is a spicy and flavorful one to try.

Ingredients:

  • 1 15 ounce can black beans, drained
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • 1/2 red or yellow bell pepper, diced (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 "egg" (use Ener-G egg replacer)
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • oil for frying (optional)

Preparation:

Mash the beans in a large bowl and add remaining ingredients, mixing until well combined.

Press firmly to form into patties and lightly fry in oil. Or, fire up the grill and barbecue your black bean veggie burgers over a medium heat.

Good with Mexican flavors..., Guest Judy

Good with a mix of Mexican spices - cumin, cilatro, chipotle powder (or just chile powder), garlic, etc. Serve with a avocado slices + a little salsa + some lime mayo. Yum. If you are gluten-free, use crushed GF rice or almond cracker crumbs instead of the bread crumbs.
