Creole Flavored Black Bean Burger Patties

Vegetarian bean burger patties, spiced with Creole seasonings

A generous amount of Creole seasonings as well as a dash of hot sauce lend the flavor to these vegetarian and vegan black bean burgers. For an even spicier Creole veggie burger, double the hot sauce, or add a dash of cayenne pepper to the mix.

Ingredients:

  • 2 15 ounce cans black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 tbsp margarine
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 onion, minced
  • 2 tsp Creole seasoning
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • dash salt and pepper
  • dash hot sauce, to taste (optional)
  • oil for frying (optional)

Preparation:

In a food processor or blender, process the all ingredients (except oil) until smooth. Or, mash together with a large fork or potato masher until beans are well mashed. Refrigerate mixture for at least 2 hours.

Form into patties and lightly fry in oil for a few minutes on each side, or, fire up the grill and barbecue your black bean veggie burger patties.

A reader commented that these black bean veggie burgers can also be baked for 15 minutes at 400 degrees.

~Really Yummy~, Guest

Reading the other reviews for this recipe, I thought maybe I should add some eggs so the burgers would ""stick"" together better. It worked perfectly! Now I doubled this recipe and I added the following to it: 4 Eggs Beaten 1 Can (15.5oz) of Garbanzo Beans (Chick Peas) Mashed 2 Cups of Bread Crumbs (More or Less) I also refrigerated the ""mix"" overnight. I then made patties and fried them with vegetable oil in an electric skillet. I turned the temperature to 275 degrees and covered them. I flipped them over several times for about 25 minutes to 30 minutes. Before taking them out, I melted some cheese on the top of the burgers. I like my food very spicy, so I put more hot sauce and black pepper on my own burgers. But even without the extra spice I put on my burgers, my daughter said her burgers were spicy and very yummy.
