1. Homemade Baba Ghanoush
Was 2010 the year of Middle Eastern food? I personally ate a lot of Middle Eastern food this year, as I discovered a new Israeli restaurant near my yoga studio, and frequented there for a post-workout falafel at least twice a week! And according to my internet statistics, lots of people were also enjoying Middle Eastern food this year and making this homemade baba ghanoush recipe throughout the year.
2. Chana Masala - Indian chickpeas with spinach
Coming in at the second most popular vegetarian recipe of 2010 is this spicy chickpea dish with spinach. So good to know everyone has been getting their greens in and enjoying this recipe! It's long been a personal favorite of mine, and has plenty of positive reviews.
3. Broccoli and Tofu in Garlic Sauce
Broccoli and tofu are healthy staples of a vegetarian or vegan diet, and this recipe cooks them up in a thickened sauce similar to many Chinese restaurants. The ingredients are all familar, and the result is something like your favorite take-out place. Everyone loves this easy vegetarian meal, and it's a good go-to cupboard meal to have handy. It definitely deserves to be on the top ten list!
4. Easy Black Bean Burgers
These burgers held the number one spot back in 2008, and moved down the list in 2009. Now, they're climbing they're way back up to the top. Try this easy recipe to find out why everybody loves it so much, year after year. I always recommend this recipe to people who are new to making veggie burgers and are a bit hesitant to try. It just couldn't be any easier.
5. Greek Quinoa Salad Recipe
Quinoa is back! This time, it's this popular Greek-inspired quinoa salad filled with kalamata olives, chopped artichokes and lots of fresh herbs. If you're never tried quinoa before, get with the times and give this recipe a whirl. According to all of the five-star reviews it's received, you won't be disappointed.
6. Easy Vegetarian Miso Soup
A surprise addition to the top ten vegetarian recipes of 2010 - an easy, simple homemade Japanese miso soup recipe. Lots of ethnic cuisine making the cut this year! Miso soup may not be the most exciting elaborate gourmet vegetarian dish, but it seems to be one lots of people enjoy making at home.
7. Vegan Pancakes
Vegan pancakes? Who knew! Yes, vegan pancakes join the top ten vegetarian recipes of the year. Personally, I like to have some flavored pancakes rather than plain pancakes. If you're the same, try these super-sweet strawberry pancakes or even these fancy eggnog pancakes for the holidays.
8. TVP Veggie Burgers
For the first time this year, we have two veggie burgers on the list! I think I'm going to nickname 2010 the year of the veggie burger (or did I already deem it the year of Middle Eastern food?), because two more veggie burgers recipes came in close without making the cut. Maybe next year? Who knows!
9. Vegan Tofu Scramble
I think just about every vegan in the world has tried a tofu scramble for breakfast at one point or another. If you're newly vegan and you haven't yet had tofu scramble, try this popular and highly reviewed version with onion and green bell pepper. This recipe happens to be the most popular, but there are literally dozens of tofu scramble recipes you can try. A healthy tofu scamble with spinach, for example, or a super easy version with salsa.
10. Vegetarian Lentil Soup
Another favorite in the Top Ten of 2009 list is this vegetarian lentil soup. With 17 five-star reviews, everyone agrees this recipe is a keeper. Lentils are high in fiber and protein, and just about everyone enjoys a comforting home-cooked soup now and then. Keep this one handy throughout the next year, as if 2010 was anything to go by, you'll be making it a lot next year!
