Vegan Tartar Sauce

User Rating 4 Star Rating (1 Review)

Vegan tartar sauce is good for dipping tofu or vegetarian mock fish. Try serving vegan tartar with these vegetarian Old Bay mock crab cakes or these kid-approved breaded tofu nuggets. This simple vegan tartar sauce is made from silken tofu, lemon juice, mustard and pickle relish.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 pound soft (silken) tofu
  • 1/4 cup safflower oil
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp mustard
  • 1/4 cup pickle relish

Preparation:

In a food processor or blender, combine all ingredients, except pickle relish, and process until smooth. Stir in relish by hand. Vegan tartar sauce is good for dipping tofu or vegetarian mock fish. Try serving vegan tartar with these vegetarian Old Bay mock crab cakes.

Recipe needs clarification, Guest Lori

After trying to tweak this recipe to make it taste better after the first attempt, It was really good. I'd give it 5 stars if it was written so you know what kind of mustard to use. The mustard I used was Dijon, but I didn't know if it meant yellow mustard, mustard powder or what. It needed some vinegar, pepper and a bit more salt. You can use dill pickles for the relish, but it will make the sauce taste a little bitter. Sweet pickles taste best.
