Vegan Miso Salad Dressing Recipe

Cabbage salad with vegan miso salad dressing

A relatively low-fat tangy miso-based vegan salad dressing recipe with a gingery Asian flavor. Some people may find the miso flavor a bit too strong or salty. I quite like the miso flavor, but if you find it too strong, you can dilute it with a bit more water and sesame oil.

This vegan miso salad dressing would also make a great spring roll dipping sauce.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes


  • 1/4 cup miso
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp minced fresh ginger OR 1 tsp ginger powder
  • water as needed (optional)


Combine all ingredients using a blender or food processor. If mixing by hand, use a fork or whisk and beat until smooth.

Add a bit of water, a teaspoon at a time, if desired, for a thinner consistency.

I made a tahini based dressing I loved, but the kids didn't care much for it. So I grabbed this out of the fridge--I hadn't because I thought they wouldn't like it--and they LOVED it. It's the only dressing they reach for now. The whole family appreciates this and a little goes a long way. When I made this I used hot sesame oil because that's all I had, and wow--it really gave it a kick! This is also good over brown rice with chopped baby bella mushrooms and heated up. It's like a vegan gravy. Love this dressing!
