Ingredients:

  • 1 8 ounce package tempeh
  • 1 cup salsa
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning mix
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • dash salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 - 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Preparation:

Cut the tempeh into strips approximately two inches by one inch, then cut each piece in half from top to bottom.

Whisk together the salsa, wine, garlic powder, onion powder and soy sauce in a wide shallow pan. Marinate the tempeh in this mixture overnight.

In a large bowl, combine the remaining ingredients except olive oil. Dredge the tempeh in this mixture, gently tossing to coat well.

Lightly fry the coated tempeh in olive oil until lightly golden brown and just barely crispy.
