Vegetarian Indonesian Food

The first time I visited Indonesia, I didn't really know what to eat, so it was lots of vegetarian fried rice and of course the popular Indonesian gado-gado salad (sans the usual shrimp crackers), though I did also enjoy getting to try lots of fresh local tempeh, which is a popular vegetarian food originally from Indonesia. I'll be visiting Indonesia again soon, and, with the help of Happy Cow, the comprehensive global vegetarian food locator and my fellow food lovers at About.com, here's some of the vegetarian Indonesian food I'm looking forward to trying this time around:
  • Easy Indonesian tempeh
  • Indonesian gado gado salad with tofu and potatoes
  • Rhonda's easy Indonesian gado gado recipe
  • Sweet and sour vegetarian tempeh (pictured)
  • Hot banana coconut dessert
  • Indonesian peanut sauce

There are so many recipes from Indonesia-Gado2 is very popular but there are tons more-many people eat tofu called tahu, tempe(freshly made every day)-tons of ways to cook tempe and then you have greens that defy the western mind-hope to see more in the coming posts.
