This anonymous poster has a few reasons for trying out the vegan lifestyle, but she's got one thing that I find rather unique. Many people choose to reduce their consumption of animal products in order to improve their own health, but this woman (I'm assuming) is doing it help motivate her unhealthy relatives to do the same. Here's what she wrote in to say:

I'm black, and my family eats too much fatty meats which is why my grandma and mother have diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and obesity is in my siblings. I feel like at some point we have to draw the line so I'm becoming a vegan to shed the weight so they can see what they need to do.

Here's hoping you, and all of your family members can avoid diabetes and knock off a few pounds with your new vegan diet, Ms. Anonymous!

This is a bunch of hooey. I’d bet that her family’s problems with diabetes and obesity are due to fried foods and sugar consumption. Fatty meat is an issue, of course, but there are so many factors that contribute to diabetes that one cannot blame it solely on meat. I’ve been fatter as a vegetarian than I ever was as a carnivore.
