Need a last minute gift idea for a vegetarian or vegan on your list? Or maybe you've just got a Grinch of a friend who doesn't like the materialism of the holidays. Why not make a last-minute donation to a vegetarian organization in a friend's name?
Of course, with the global recession, most non-profit charitable groups are feeling the financial pinch as well and could certainly use a bit of help! From farm animal rescue groups, to meat-free orphanages, there's dozens of deserving vegetarian-related causes for you to choose from. Here are a few of my personal favorite vegetarian charities and causes. Dad, if you're reading this, I just sent a donation to the Lotus Children's Centre, a vegetarian orphanage in Mongolia, in your name! Merry Christmas! I should also add that I have personally volunteered or worked for most of the organizations listed here and believe 100% in what they do. It's always wise, however, to fully research an organization before donating money to make sure your hard-earned cash is going to support your personal values.
