Don't throw it out! Uses for leftover rice

Thursday October 16, 2008
In these tight financial times, every little bit counts, and we're all trying to stretch our food dollar as much as possible, so don't let those leftovers go to waste! If you've got some leftover plain steamed rice, transform it into a new meal with these recipes using leftover rice. Even if you don't have leftover rice on hand, plain white rice is one of the cheapest foods available. In most grocery stores, the bigger the bag, the better the deal, so shop in bulk, if you can! About.com's guide for busy cooks says that you can also freeze leftover rice. She recommends freezing the rice in one cup portions in freezer bags, then reheating in the microwave.

Is plain brown rice that much more expensive than plain white rice? Brown rice is SO much more nutritious.

I reuse my rice by making rice pudding. I just add some milk (almond works best if you are vegan) a bit of honey, vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon and cardamom and I have a healthy desert that tastes amazing…I call it my chai rice pudding!
