Is caviar vegetarian?

Thursday September 18, 2008
Ok, so maybe this isn't the most important question to consider when you're thinking about becoming vegetarian, but let's face it, most of us, at least once in a while, have some cravings for our favorite foods. But since we're so lucky to be living in 2008, there's usually a pretty tasty vegetarian substitute for whatever you want, whether you're a vegan craving cheese or a vegetarian with black pudding on the mind. And yes, if caviar is your comfort food, there's a vegetarian substitute for that too. Read on to learn more about why caviar, fish eggs, is not vegetarian, and to find out about vegetarian caviar substitutes.

I LOVE the lumpfish Cavi-art!

Here is how I like it:

Sliced cucumber (round) topped with vegan sour cream and a spoonful of the cavi-art. YUM! Makes a great hors d’oeuvres to have with Champagne!
